Dr. Robert M. Toronyi

Chief Operating Officer

Dr. Toronyi was formerly Chevron’s Reservoir Management premier technical expert for both its domestic and international companies. He headed Chevron’s international technology activities, which spans all corners of the globe and, in particular, its business development opportunities in Kuwait. Dr. Toronyi was a member of Chevron’s Reserves Advisory Committee and its Reservoir Management Assurance team for major capital projects. He was part of a team which is revamping Chevron’s Reservoir Management efforts to improve its production performance and reserves replacement. As project Manager for Chevron’s Kuwait business development, Dr. Toronyi worked closely with senior oil officials to improve the long-term production performance of the Burgan oil field, the second largest oil field in the world.

Dr. Toronyi worked for Chevron for over 30 years and worked for every one of its upstream companies and affiliates and brings both a wealth and breadth of knowledge of modern international oil company technology activities. He also worked on reservoir management proposals for Chevron opportunities in Russia, Latin America and the Middle East. Dr. Toronyi was Chevron’s Technical Services Manager for Saudi Aramco, where he was responsible for providing the latest reservoir management technologies and studies. Furthermore he was Chevron’s Technical Services Manager for Kuwait Oil Company, were he helped to create its Reservoir Management department.

Dr. Toronyi is author of Chevron’s Reservoir Simulation Guide and has developed and taught many of its schools in reservoir engineering. He has been part of numerous improved recovery assessments both onshore and offshore in the US, North Sea, Nigeria, Angola, Indonesia, Australia and Venezuela. Dr. Toronyi has been Chevron’s member to the Gas Research Institute and DOE improved recovery programs. He has provided expert opinion to various US and overseas governmental bodies, including the UN commission on Reserve Loss in Kuwait.

Dr. Toronyi holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Pennsylvania State University in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering and B.Sc. degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Mathematics from Marietta College. He has been an Officer and Chairman of SPE Chapters, the Chairman of the SPE Reservoir Engineering Committee and the SPE Fluids Mechanics Committee, a member of many SPE technical forums, a Technical Editor and author of numerous papers on reservoir engineering.
