Philip N. (Phil) Longorio, currently a consultant and board member of two oil-field service start-up companies that are focusing on new technologies, is a 30 year veteran of the oil and gas service industry. For the last 15 years he has been in executive management positions with major and smaller service companies.
Prior to his retirement this year, he was President and CEO of WellDynamics, the world’s market leader in intelligent completion technology. Formed as a joint venture between Halliburton Energy Services and Shell Technology Ventures, WellDynamics uses advanced intelligent well technology to deliver the world’s premier solutions for surface controlled reservoir monitoring and management of complex wells. Longorio joined WellDynamics in 2004 when it was struggling to gain market success commercializing SmartWell technology. During his tenure the company grew rapidly and established itself in the services segment introducing several new technologies enabling broader acceptance of the SmartWell capabilities. Major customers for WellDynamics include NOC’s and IOC’s such as Saudi Aramco, Shell, bp, ChevronTexaco and Petrobras.
Before joining WellDynamics, Longorio spent 16 years with Halliburton Energy Services, a diversified energy services business providing cementing; fracturing; well logging and testing; directional drilling, LWD/MWD; down hole well completion, and related oil and gas well services on a global basis. For his last 5 years at Halliburton, he was Vice President in charge of Sperry-Sun, a major business unit of Halliburton Energy Services that provides directional drilling, drilling measurements, logging-while-drilling (formation evaluation) services, and client drilling engineering consulting on a global basis. During this time he helped focus on rapid development and application of several new technologies such as enhanced (wireline replacement quality) LWD sensors, rotary steerable directional drilling tools, geosteering modeling and measurements and Real Time Operations capability development. Sperry-Sun enjoyed major client relationships with many national, super major, major, large independent and smaller oil and gas exploration companies around the world such as Norsk Hydro, Statoil, AGIP, Saudi Aramco, Sonatrach, Shell, ExxonMobil, Total, ChevronTexaco, Anadarko Petroleum, Kerr McGee and many more. Prior to his assignment with Sperry-Sun Longorio also served Halliburton in executive management roles leading the well testing as well as the wireline logging and perforating businesses. In his Halliburton years he lived and worked in the Permian Basin, the Rockies, Indonesia and Malaysia as well as Houston and held regional and global management roles in business development and operations.
Longorio joined Halliburton in 1988 when Halliburton acquired Gearhart Industries where he started his oil field career in 1977. At Gearhart he began as an open-hole wireline logging engineer, and held several operations management, sales management as well as training management roles.
Longorio is a United States Air Force veteran, and an active member of the SPE and SPWLA.
