Paul Murray

Chief Designer, Knowledge Systems

Hired as a Knowledge Management Consultant by Saudi Aramco National Oil Company from Science Applied International Corporation (S.A.I.C.) in 2002. From 2002-2007 was team lead in knowledge management (KM) initiative championed by the Sr. Vice President of Exploration & Producing (E&P). The KM initiative focused on establishing learning communities to improve knowledge sharing across the organization, building upon existing intellectual capital, and shortening learning curves – all in strategic efforts to mitigate risks associated with scaled-up operations and increasingly advance drilling & completion technologies being introduced within E&P. The KM initiative was recognized as an integral component to the overall success of the company’s most ambitious (and rewarding) oil & gas operations during this timeframe including; Haradh Increment III in Ghawar, Shaybah Field, AFK Fields, Abu Sa’fah Offshore Fields, & Khurais Field.

Considered an expert in web-based technologies, he was senior designer for the E&P knowledge management web-portal that enabled users from across Saudi Aramco to capture, codify, and share their intellectual assets online. This intranet site, a key enabler of the KM initiative, was one of the company’s most popular, and valuable, online destinations with over 20,000 registered users and thousands of validated Best Practices and Lessons Learned accessible within the system.

Holds a B.A in English Literature from the University of Washington (Seattle). Is co-founder of National Talent Center Saudi Arabia (2003), a technical academy for children ages six to thirteen (6-13) in Saudi Arabia (Al-Khobar, Eastern Province). Contributions to KM in the Oil & Gas sector have been positively recognized in various publications including Pipeline Magazine (2004), Global Knowledge Review (2005), and Saudi Aramco Dimensions (2006).
